Mark Robert Loring is an accomplished collaborative pianist, piano instructor, and conductor whose career reflects a lifelong passion for both performance and pedagogy. With over three decades of experience in collaborative performance, private instruction, and church music leadership, Mr. Loring brings a wealth of musical expertise grounded in academic excellence and Christian values.
Mr. Loring earned his Master of Music degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he studied organ and harpsichord performance under internationally renowned artist Wolfgang Rübsam. While at Northwestern, he participated in masterclasses with esteemed musicians Simon Preston (Westminster Abbey) and flutist James Galway. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Piano and Organ Performance from the University of New Hampshire, with additional studies in collaborative piano and performance stress techniques such as the Alexander Technique.
A versatile and in-demand collaborative pianist, Mr. Loring has served as an accompanist for vocal and instrumental students at Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, and Ferris State University. He has also performed extensively with public school music programs across Michigan and adjudicated for the Don Heckenlively Music Performance Competition in 2024 and 2025. Notable solo performances include organ recitals at Park Congregational Church in Grand Rapids and St. James Cathedral in Toronto.
Mr. Loring currently serves on the faculty of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community Music School, where he maintains a full studio of piano students. He is also the music director of the Capital City Ringers Handbell Ensemble and accompanist for the Jackson Children’s Chorale. Since 2021, he has held the role of Director of Traditional Worship at Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Northville, Michigan, where he directs a 50-member sanctuary choir, a 20-member orchestra, and leads the Ward School of Music.
In addition to classical training, Mr. Loring continues to expand his musical versatility through ongoing jazz piano and composition study with Rick Roe (Michigan State University). He is an active member of several professional organizations, including Piano Teacher Central, the Collaborative Pianists Community, and the Modern Conducting Institute.
A recipient of a full tuition scholarship to Northwestern University and first-place winner of the New Hampshire Granite State Piano Competition, Mr. Loring combines his technical skill, artistic sensitivity, and deep-rooted faith to inspire students and audiences alike.
