Catalina Barraza-Gerardino

Dr. Catalina Barraza pursued her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Michigan State University in violin performance with Dr. Walter Verdehr. She earned her Master of Music degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and her bachelor’s degree from Pontifical Javeriana University in her home city Bogota, Colombia.

She is a violin teacher in the Overture Program from the Sphinx Organization and the String Team from the Jackson Community Music School. In addition, Dr. Barraza conducts the Mason Philharmonic Orchestra, located in the Lansing area. In the summertime, she is a faculty member at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. As a performer, Dr. Barraza has extensive orchestra and chamber music experience. She has performed with orchestras around Michigan, Colombia National Symphony Orchestra, among many others. She has performed throughout the United States, Israel, Spain and her native Colombia.
