JSO Community Music School

About Us

Adult Education

Music education is NOT just for children! We have many adult students at the Community Music School who have found a wonderful new retirement hobby, or are revisiting and rediscovering talent from their youth! Some parents learn alongside their children in order to offer support and guidance at home, and it’s a fantastic way to bond families together. We offer private lessons in all instruments, as well as several group classes (including guitar, violin, and piano).

Community Strings Ensemble

The Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community String Ensemble is a string orchestra of Jackson-area string musicians (violin, viola, cello, and string bass) for all ages and technical levels. Led by JSO principal violist, Clyde McKaney (photo below), we rehearse twice a month, every other Monday, from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at the JSO’s Weatherwax Hall, and perform two to three concerts each season. The season goes from September to May. We perform beautiful and exciting music for string orchestra, which includes opportunities for smaller chamber ensembles such as string quartets, trios, and duets. Our 2018-19 season begins Sept. 10! Contact us for information on how to join this fun group!
